WWE signs partnership with Fanatics for the launch of NFTs
The WWE, which gave sports entertainment fans superstars like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena and The Undertaker, has penned a deal that will see the stars feature on non-fungible token (NFT) trading cards.
The partnership, according to the announcement, is with major digital sports platform Fanatics.
Via this long-term deal, Fanatics will help create and mint NFTs that will also capture the WWE’s most memorable moments, the company said in the statement issued on Monday.
The partnership will work via Fanatics Collectibles, the dedicated trading cards and collectibles arm of the sports platform. The collaboration doesn’t commence immediately though, something that might disappoint some diehard WWE fans eager for a new experience.
Per the press release, the deal is set to come into effect “over the next few years” once the contracts with current trading cards rights holders terminate.
However, 2022 will see Fanatics’ digital collectibles subsidiary Candy Digital become WWE’s official and primary NFTs partner. When that happens, Candy’s top technologists, artists, and designers will work towards unveiling the trading card NFTs.
This means that with an all-round experience promised, the chance to see show-stopper and legendary entertainers in the industry in an NFT collection could be worth the wait.
